Rental Policies

Reservations
A reservation deposit is required at the time of the booking. See Boat Rentals for reservation deposit amounts for each boat.

Cancellations
We understand that plans can change, but please try to give as much notice as possible for cancellations. Customer may cancel reservation 7 days or more prior to rental date with no penalty, and deposit shall be refunded in full. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to rental date will result in the forfeiture of 100% of the deposit.

Weather
For single day rentals, in the event of foul weather, the rental reservation may be cancelled at the discretion of Duneshore Boating staff, and all deposit money returned to the customer. However, we cannot guarantee ideal boating weather here in Michigan! For chilly days, overcast days, or days with brief rain, the customer will be expected to fulfill their rental agreement. (Foul weather refunds do not apply to weekly rentals, since the weekly rental fees equate to 2-3 or more "free" days.)

Damage Deposits
Prior to departure, customer will be required to pay by credit card or cash (no checks) a damage deposit. The deposit is to pay for broken or lost equipment, service fees, and insurance deductible if applicable. Deposit will be returned within 10 business days after the return of the boat, provided no damage has occurred. See Boat Rentals for damage deposit amounts for each boat.

Payment
Reservation deposits may be made by cash, check, or credit card. (Payments by check must be made more than 10 days in advance.) Payment of balance of rental fee and damage deposit can be made at the time of rental, by cash or credit card.

Operating Expenses
Customer is responsible for all operating expenses during the rental, including slip fees, fuel, oil, etc. Customer can return boat with full fuel and oil tanks, or allow Duneshore to compute the fuel consumed and deduct the fuel and oil cost from the damage deposit.

Check-on
Check-on time is between 8 and 10 a.m., by appointment. Check-on will be at White Lake Moorings Marina, in Whitehall (formerly Moxie Marine), or at the customer's rental cottage dock for weekly rentals. Check-on will include a thorough review of operating procedures for the boat, as well as paperwork, and could take up to 45 minutes. ALL BOAT OPERATORS SHOULD BE PRESENT FOR CHECK-ON.

Check-off
Daily rentals should be returned between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. to the Marina. Weekly off-site rentals will be picked up by Duneshore by 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the rental. The boat will be inventoried and inspected for damage, and will be refueled at that time if possible.

Weekly Rentals
We prefer to run weekly rentals from Saturday a.m. to Friday p.m. to correspond to the typical White Lake cottage/resort rental, but exceptions can be made upon request. Boats must be stored in a secure place (approved by Duneshore Boating), and may not be used after dark.

Restrictions
Boat operators must be 21 or older, have a valid driver's license, and have some boating experience. All boats must remain on White Lake unless a written exception has been made. Boats may not be operated after dark. No smoking, drugs, or driving under the influence of alcohol. Lifejackets must be worn by all children 12 and under. Please adhere to the maximum passenger capacity listed on rental contract.
